Frequently Asked Questions

The Music

What type of ensemble would you recommend for my event?

We’re biased and believe that a string quartet is the best possible option for your event, especially a wedding ceremony and cocktail hour, because we can perform in many different locations with no amplification or electrical needs (other than lighting, we do need to be able to see our music). The variety of music we can perform is incredible vast and allows for ample flexibility to suit your needs and interests.

Should I select music for the ceremony?

Yes, if you would like to do so. If you feel that you need our advice - we will be happy to assist you and share our musical ideas with you.

Can I request a different ensemble group for our event?

Not at this time. We perform as a string quartet and our repertoire list is prepared for our group. We may add musicians including guitarists or singers for specific pieces, or upon request. Please feel free to contact us to discuss specific music selections you would like to be performed.

Can I  request a special song/arrangement which is not part of your repertoire list?

Yes, we will try to accommodate your special requests (additional charges may incur) with at least two weeks advance notice. Some music is not well suited to a string quartet arrangement, so please be open minded when we consult with you about your musical selections.

The Event

Where do you perform?

We will travel across Northern New York, throughout St Lawrence County, Plattsburgh, Watertown, Lowville, Saranac Lake, Lake Placid, Tupper Lake, Northern Vermont, Southeastern Ontario, Quebec, and the Adirondacks.

What time will musicians arrive to the event location?

Musicians will arrive at least 30 minutes before the starting time in the contract.

What is the musicians' dress code?

Formal black unless otherwise specified.

Do musicians need any special arrangements to set-up?

No, we will bring chairs and music stands. We need enough space to sit in a semi-circle, approximately a 10’ x 15’ space, but we will be flexible with your space.

What if it rains and my event is outdoors?

Our instruments are very valuable and therefore shelter from rain or direct sunlight is strongly requested. We recommend planning on a canopy tent (10’x10’ minimum) or rain location.

For a wedding, how much music do you play ahead of the ceremony?

Fifteen minutes prior to the ceremony we begin the prelude music while your guests are being seated. When cued, we begin the processional music for the parents, bridal party and bride. During the ceremony there are many opportunities for music: communion, walking around the chuppah, lighting of candles, offertory etc. The recessional music continues until the guests have moved on to the cocktail / reception.

Will you come to the rehearsal?

Our booking manager will attend the rehearsal in person (for an additional charge) or provide a virtual check in call the day before the event (free of charge).

The Contract

When should I book?

Many people book 9-12 months ahead of a wedding. Summer wedding weekends often book up quickly, so we recommend booking as soon as you have a date and venue. We can be booked with a few weeks notice for a funeral or memorial, though our availability is more limited.

Do you require a deposit?

We require a $100 deposit at the time of booking. The remaining balance is due upon our arrival at the event. though to make your event smoother, we recommend you paying at the rehearsal.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept cash, local check ($50 bad check fee), money order, PayPal or Venmo.

What if I would like you to perform overtime?

We can not always guarantee our availability after the contract time is up, but please feel free to ask the group leader 10-15 minutes before the conclusion of the performance.

What is the due date of the final payment (remaining balance)?

The final payment is due on the day of your event but may be paid at a rehearsal or the day before the event.

Should I provide the final payment before or after the performance?

We prefer before the performance, but it is really up to you. Please make sure that you or your assigned person (wedding planner or best man, for example) will take care of the payment no later than by the end of our performance.
